Ravi Zacharias on Campus to Launch New Partnership

On Monday, April 12, 2010, Ravi & Margie Zacharias, Rick & Sharon Pease, and John Njoroge came to the Deerfield campus of Trinity to kick off the partnership between Trinity International University & Ravi Zacharias International Ministries (RZIM). A number of events were held during the day, including an all university chapel, during which Ravi spoke on "The Renewed Mind," and "Apologetics Beyond the Pew: A Conversation for the Church with Ravi Zacharias & Friends" co-sponsored by The Henry Center for Theological Understanding.

During the chapel service, a plaque was presented by TIU president Dr. Craig Williford to Ravi celebrating his appointment as professor at large. Dr. Williford also announced the following details for the partnership, which is continuing to develop over the next few months.

  • Ravi and other members of RZIM will be teaching in classes at Trinity on an annual basis.
  • Trinity Graduate School is developing a master's degree with the proposed name of Master's of Arts in Cultural Engagement. Degree details are currently being discussed with the faculty of the graduate school.
  • Trinity Evangelical Divinity School faculty and administrators are discussing how the Master of Arts in Intercultural Studies currently works with and may be adapted to these new opportunities.
  • TIU students if nominated by faculty will be eligible to apply for an internship with RZIM that will earn academic credit toward degrees at TIU. Students will also have the opportunity to to participate in a practicum experience with RZIM. The internship and practicum experiences may include traveling with the RZIM apologists to participate in and observe the work of RZIM apologists at the students' expense.
  • The partnership between Trinity and RZIM will engender a dialogue between students and faculty of Trinity and The Oxford Centre for Christian Apologetics, itself a partnership between RZIM and Wycliffe Hall at Oxford. Discussions are under way for a more formal exchange of faculty and students between the two organizations.
  • TIU is exploring establishing a Ravi Zacharias Society of Fellows. These students would participate in TIU-lead events and activities designed to enhance one's understanding of global cultures, apologetics, and how to communicate the gospel of Christ in persuasive ways.

Other potential aspects of this partnership are being discussed--activities and opportunities that would further the work of God's Kingdom in the world. We are excited to see where God takes both Trinity and RZIM through this partnership.
